Milford Sound / Piopiotahi is a fjord in the south-west of New Zealand’s South Island, located within Fiordland National Park, the Piopiotahi (Milford Sound) Marine Reserve, and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site. It has been ranked the world’s top travel destination in an international survey (the 2008 Travellers’ Choice Destinations Awards by TripAdvisor) and is widely regarded as New Zealand’s most famous tourist destination. Rudyard Kipling once described it as the eighth Wonder of the World. The fjord is most commonly reached by road (State Highway 94) on tour coaches, with the road ending at a small village also called Milford Sound.
Milford Sound is home to a range of marine mammals, including seals and the world’s southernmost wild population of bottlenose dolphins. Whales, particularly humpback and southern right whales, are being seen more often as their populations recover. Penguins are also common in the sound, which is a breeding site for the Fiordland penguin and has therefore been recognised as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International.
Because of Milford Sound’s high rainfall and the density of the saltwater, the surface layer is freshwater stained with tannins from the surrounding rainforest. This filters much of the sunlight entering the water, allowing various species of black coral to grow at depths as shallow as 10 metres, much closer to the surface than usual.

Doubtful Sound / Patea is a fjord in Fiordland, in the far southwest of New Zealand. It sits in the same region as the smaller but more famous and easier-to-reach Milford Sound, and is regarded as New Zealand’s second most iconic tourism destination after Milford Sound.
Stretching for about 40 kilometres (25 miles), Doubtful Sound is the second longest, and at depths of up to 421 metres (1,381 feet), the deepest of the South Island’s fiords. Compared with Milford Sound, it’s more expansive, with cliffs that are less dramatically high and sheer. The classic U-shaped profile of the fjord is clear, especially on the two innermost arms of the main fjord and in the hanging side valleys along it.
Like most of Fiordland, Doubtful Sound experiences heavy rainfall, with an annual average of 3,000–6,000 millimetres (120–240 inches). The steep mountainsides surrounding the fjord are cloaked in dense native rainforest.

Wellington is the capital of New Zealand. Wellington is a compact city as it is nestled between the magnificent Wellington Harbour and surrounding green hills. Wellington is a city rich in culture with a strong emphasis on the arts and is considered the cultural hub of New Zealand. The proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the stormy Cook Strait is the reason why Wellington is known as the Windy City.
The town itself is quite compact with most attractions within easy reach. The most significant attraction in Wellington is the beautifully refurbished Parliament Buildings, located in the historic suburb of Thorndon. The complex is made up of 3 architecturally distinctive buildings: the Edwardian neo-classical Parliament House, the Victorian Gothic Parliamentary Library and the unique 1970’s style Beehive building, considered the city’s main landmark. Close to the Parliament Buildings, visitors will find plenty of good shops, cafés, Te Papa Museum and Courtenay Place for entertainment. Not too far away are the Ferry terminals and the Caketin, Wellington Stadium.
Offering landscapes full of beaches, mountains, old Victorian townhouses, good lookout points, trendy clubs, parliament buildings, music, art, and so much more, Wellington truly is a pleasant and beautiful destination.

Auckland is the biggest metropolitan area in both Polynesia and New Zealand and a lively city with multicultural influence. It's situated between two natural harbours, the Waitemata Harbour and the Manukau Harbour and it's often referred to as the City of Sails, as it has the highest number of boats per head of population in the world.
In the city centre, there's a good few galleries, museums, theatres, trendy bars, and top class restaurants which offer a wide range of food. The Skytower dominates the city’s skyline and offers a cracking view of the city. Queen Street, the commercial hub area, starts at Waitemata Harbour and runs for nearly three kilometres in a straight line. From the city centre you can walk to the Auckland Domain and the Museum, Albert Park, Parnell, a lovely historic area, and up to Newmarket with its many shops. From there it's not far to Mt. Eden and its impressive crater, and to Cornwall Park which is at the foot of the famous One Tree Hill. One Tree Hill, an extinct volcano cone and ancient Maori settlement offers great panoramic views of this sprawling city.
Cosmopolitan and charming, Auckland is easy to get to, beautiful, and with plenty to do. It's definitely New Zealand's most lively city.
