Covilhã is a city in the Centro region, Portugal. Sometimes referred to as town of wool and snow, Covilhã is one of the main urban centres of the historical Beira Interior region. The proximity of the mountains offers dramatic scenery and a great environment for those fond of hiking, camping, mountain climbing and skiing. Covilha is indeed an original example of a "mountain city", rare in the Portuguese urbanism with the expression of a broad industrial tradition based on modern and contemporary times. The mountain is the main attribute of the city, located in the heart of the Serra da Estrela between the banks of Carpinteira and Goldra that are so important for the wool industry.
