Kyoto is home to thousands of temples and shrines, including the spectacular golden Kinkaku-ji, Ryoanji with its Zen garden, the popular Kiyomizu-dera, Sanjusangendo with its life-size statues of Kannon and the more serene Tenryu-ji in Arashiyama. Also in Arashiyama, you'll find the famous Bamboo Grove. A fantastic thing to do in Kyoto is a walking tour of Gion, one of the main Geisha districts. Its wooden buildings and lamps create the perfect atmosphere. Kyoto is one of the world's greatest historical cities, brimming with temples, shrines, teahouses and imperial residences. Day 11
hiroshima, japan
Arrival: 11:00 - Departure: 21:00
Hiroshima is an industrial city with wide boulevards and criss-crossing rivers, located along the coast of the Seto Inland Sea. While many people only know it for the horrific moment on August 6, 1945, when it became the site of the world's first atomic bomb attack, it has since transformed into a modern, cosmopolitan city with excellent cuisine and a lively nightlife. There are two World Heritage Sites in Hiroshima. One is the Itsukushima Shrine, and the other is the A-Bomb Dome of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial. Hiroshima is home to several historical sites. The Hiroshima Castle stands in the centre of the city. You can see the old town, which was formed during the Edo era, in Tomonoura in Fukuyama City and in Takehara City. However, in Hiroshima City, there are few old buildings as many were destroyed by the atomic bomb. Yet, some still stand resilient – for example, the Old Bank of Japan Hiroshima Branch, the Rest House, and so on. Around the Peace Memorial Park, you can see many statues dedicated to praying for the victims of the atomic bomb. The entirety of Hiroshima can serve as a textbook of its own history.
