Lautoka ist die zweitgrößte Stadt in Fidschi. Sie liegt an der Westküste der Insel Viti Levu, in der Ba-Provinz der Western Division. Im Herzen der Zuckerrohranbauregion Fidschis gelegen, ist die Stadt als "Sugar City" bekannt geworden. Mit einer Fläche von 32 Quadratkilometern hatte sie bei der Volkszählung 2017, der bisher letzten, eine Bevölkerung von 71.573.
Der Name der Stadt leitet sich von zwei fidschianischen Wörtern ab, die "Speerwurf" bedeuten. Laut einer mündlichen Überlieferung entstand der Name nach einem Duell zwischen zwei Häuptlingen. Als der eine den anderen mit einem Speer traf, soll er "Lau-toka!" ("Volltreffer!") gerufen haben.
Die erste bekannte europäische Sichtung des Lautoka-Gebiets fand am 7. Mai 1789 statt. Kapitän William Bligh sichtete und kartierte grob die Küsten von Lautoka, während er seine epische Reise nach Timor unternahm, nach der Meuterei auf der Bounty.
