We got to the premises around 1:45pm. The place was closed, there was no way to leave our luggage. We left the place, returned later, but due to this situation we missed the castle entrance deadline. Wasted trip.

Carcassone city break

The apartment was spacious. 1 bedroom, and sofa bed in living/kitchen area. Very clean and great air-conditioning. Kitchen/cooking area was basic but adequate for a short stay. Reception was welcoming and spacious. Staff were very pleasant and nothing was any bother. Breakfast was self service with good choices of cheese, bread and pastries. Parking was reasonable at 10 euros per night in a secure under building car park. The hotel was very close to the "old city" and the city centre. Both within easy walking distance.

Carcassonne is a city in south-west France that is best known for its UNESCO World Heritage listed walled city. It played an important role in Languedoc’s unsuccessful effort to remain independent of northern France. The exterior wall was completed under Louis IX. By the mid-19th century, villagers had so thoroughly pillaged the walls for building materials that only truncated ruins remained. But rising interest in medieval France spurred the rebuilding of the Cité. For the best castle-roving, visit the Cité in early morning or at night. The Basilique St-Nazaire, on the south side of the Cité, is an exceptional church, combining a northern Gothic transept and apse with much older Romanesque nave. The stained glass is generally considered among the finest in southern France. Near the Basilique, an amphitheatre built to provide entertainment during the town’s long sieges host many events.
