Lovely hotel. So clean. Nicely styled outdoor seating area and swimming pool. Very efficient and friendly staff. One young male member of staff gave a recommendation of a local cocktail served at the hotel. It was very good. He also helped with explaining about the tickets for a train journey I had booked. The red decor of the room we stayed in was a bit oppressive but it didn’t spoil our stay: minor gripe.

Not suitable for seniors (high bathtubs, no air conditioner in early may, radiator/heater on and very difficult to turn off ((in the lower end of the radiator almost next to the floor)); during snow season is necessary to go to another street to sleep and then come back to the breakfast area the same way. The very French breakfast is not worth the money we paid for it (18€ per person). There is parking available in the property (15€ per night, but is very convenient. Since the hotel is close to the castle, the view is very nice. May be attractive for young couples and Europeans but not our style.

The Basilique St-Nazaire, on the south side of the Cité, is an exceptional church, combining a northern Gothic transept and apse with much older Romanesque nave. The stained glass is generally considered among the finest in southern France. Near the Basilique, an amphitheatre built to provide entertainment during the town’s long sieges host many events. Located in a stunning and diversified region, Carcassonne is home to a fascinating cultural and historical past. Moreover, it offers delicious traditional dishes, some of the best vineyards in the south of France and very friendly locals.
