Therasia Island Greece

Therasia Island, also known as Thirasía, is part of the volcanic island group of Santorini in the Greek Cyclades. Located northwest of Nea Kameni—the small volcanic island at the center of the caldera—Therasia is the second largest island in the group, after Thera (Santorini). Covering 9.299 square kilometers (3.590 square miles), it had a population of 319 at the 2011 census and belongs administratively to the municipal unit of Oia. Thera and Therasia were separated by the ancient Thera eruption, a major volcanic event that reshaped the region. In antiquity, Therasia had a town of the same name. The island also inspired the book “Thirasia” by Greek poet Dimitris Varos, later adapted into a music album and theatrical performance by composer Giannis Markopoulos under the title “Daring Communication – Electric Theseus.”
