Isla Cristina, Spain

Isla Cristina Spain

Isla Cristina is a city and municipality in the province of Huelva, Spain. It is one of the most important fishing ports in the province, and its catch is highly prized throughout Spain. It is a popular summer vacation resort, especially for Spaniards, thanks in large part to its kilometers of Blue Flag–standard beaches. Because of the natural richness of the coast, the settlement grew rapidly and was once known by the poetic name Royal Island of the Little Fig Tree (Real Isla de la Higuerita). Its magnificent beaches and seaside areas, such as Islantilla, Centro, and Punta del Caimán, are among its main tourist attractions. The local carnival and the Atlantic Coral Festival are also well known. Within the municipality lies the Marshes of Isla Cristina Nature Park, which includes habitats with different salinity levels, where visitors can observe rich and diverse plant life and a remarkable variety of bird species.
