The Bahama Islands are a chain of around 2,000 islands, including the cays, which are tiny islands formed on coral reefs. Nassau, located on New Providence, is the capital of the Bahamas and showcases a blend of vibrant Neo-colonial 19th century structures and contemporary hotel resorts. Nassau is positioned at the northern tip of New Providence, overlooking the bay between the main island and Paradise Island. The vast majority of the nation's inhabitants reside in Nassau on New Providence Island and in the Freeport region on Grand Bahama.
