The São Miguel Island, is the largest and the most significant of the Azores Islands. It's the island with the biggest populations since this round nearly 150000, divided between the 6 municipalities which make up the island. The island is also known as Green Island, due to its vast meadows. The hills are also Laurel forests. The island is the refuge of the Azores bullfinch, an endemic bird in serious danger of extinction. Its tourist offer is primarily focused on sun and beach tourism centred mainly in the high season.
