Isla Cristina, Spain

Isla Cristina Spain

Isla Cristina is a town and municipality in the province of Huelva in southern Spain. It’s one of the most important fishing ports in the province, with its catch highly valued throughout Spain. It’s a popular spot for summer holidays, especially with Spanish visitors, thanks largely to its kilometres of Blue Flag beaches. The village grew quickly because of the rich natural resources along this stretch of coast and was once known by the poetic name Royal Island of the Little Fig Tree (Real Isla de la Higuerita). Its magnificent beaches and seaside resorts, such as Islantilla, Centro and Punta del Caimán, are among the main attractions. The local carnival and the Atlantic Coral Festival are also well known. Within the municipality lies the Marshes of Isla Cristina nature park, with habitats of varying salinity, supporting rich and diverse plant life and an impressive variety of bird species.
