Peniche Portugal

Peniche, a coastal town in the central region of Portugal, is full of culture, traditions and natural resources. The town is partly surrounded by sixteenth‑century walls. On the southern, seafront side, you can see the fortress known as the Peniche Fort (Praça‑Forte de Peniche), also from the sixteenth century, which was used as a prison during Salazar’s regime. It became famous for the escape of the communist leader Álvaro Cunhal. Peniche is home to magnificent beaches, the most beautiful of which are Baleal Beach and Medão and Gambôa beaches. Peniche is known internationally for its exceptional conditions for water sports such as surfing, bodyboarding and snorkelling. Supertubos Beach hosts numerous international events related to these sports. Peniche has a lot to offer: interesting places to visit, activities to enjoy almost all year round, and it is also a lovely place to spend a few well‑deserved days off.
