Ourem Portugal

Located in a privileged place for settlement, Ourém was founded with the name Abdegas. The current name goes back to the period of Arab domination, from the IX, and to the legend of Moura Oureana, converted to Christianity. About 2 km, in the valley, lies the new town of Ourém, established after the earthquake of 1755, currently the main residential and commercial center. During your visit, do not forget to taste the local gastronomy, where the dishes made with lamb, kid or rabbit are outstanding and, for dessert, the Cakes of Ourém Arch. Accompany the meal with regional wines. The vineyard is one of the oldest cultures, dating back to times before the foundation of the village. Nearby, visit Fatima, the important Mariano sanctuary, and get to know the Serra de Aires and Candeeiros, which limits the county to the South.
